It has come to my attention that it would be much too easy to become an alcoholic in New York; it is almost encouraged. Brunch brings Mimosas and Bloody Marys; often unlimited. Lunches can go on until mid-afternoon, by which time ‘Happy Hour’ has begun and $5 cocktails are a plenty. Any normal person has a late dinner, and if one is set on carrying on the evening there is myriad bars, and some late ‘Happy Hours’ - midnight onwards.
It struck me that it isn’t just alcoholism that is encouraged, everything is: from Broadway success to cringe-inducing karaoke. One of the many cultural differences.
